The historic Rivertown Beer Hall, established in 1914, used to serve as a social drinking place for African men working in the city of Durban. It was a means for the, then, Municipality of Natal to monopolise the production and selling of alcohol. In terms of the Native Beer Act (No 23) of 1908, it was a criminal offence for anyone other than the local council to produce or sell alcoholic beverages, including traditional sorghum beer utshwala...

Rivertown's signature gin is our African Dry Gin - a traditional Juniper Berry forward gin, vapour infused with a blend of 10 botanicals. This gin makes a great base in any gin cocktail or served as a traditional Gin & Tonic mixed with an Indian Tonic Water.
Ruby Grapefruit and Orange Blossom Gin is distinctly citrus with sweet floral undertones. This recipe includes a blend of no less than 12 botanicals which are vapour infused. Enjoy with with a standard Indian Tonic Water, garnished with a slice of ruby grapefruit and sprig of fresh mint.
Rivertown African Sky Blue gin is the latest addition to the gin family. Distinctly herbal with fruity undertones. A selection of 11 botanicals from around the world, including our dominant local African herb mhlonyane.
Produced from a grain fermentation, triple distilled and then trickle gravity filtered through a bed of activated charcoal. This is followed by a second heating and aeration process to create a smooth neutral spirit in a true handcrafted tradition.
A traditional dark rum made from a fermentation of molasses from sugarcane grown on the East Coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Matured in an American Oak quarter cask with the addition of French Oak staves, the result is a dark rum that is mellow and smooth with a unique flavour and aroma.
Best sipped neat, on the rocks, or with your favourite rum mixer.
A mix of (RU)m and g(IN). A unique Spirit Aperitif consisting of a blend of spicy gin and a touch of dark rum. The gin component makes up the majority of the Spirit Aperitif and is based on the vapour infusion of 15 botanicals including Vanilla, Cloves, Cinnamon, Black Pepper Corns, Star Anise, Nutmeg and Ginger. The spice botanical selection is derived from the spices used to make a spiced rum. Serve prepared as a gin mixed with a standard Indian Tonic Water or Ginger Ale garnished with a Cinnamon stick.
